Born in 1908 to a poor family in the small town of Sanok, Poland, Tadeusz Pankiewicz was a devout Catholic who believed in the importance of helping others. In 1940, when the Nazis invaded Poland, Tadeusz and his wife, Helena, opened their pharmacy to Jews who were being persecuted by the occupiers.

Tadeusz and Helena provided Jews with food, medicine, and shelter, and they also helped them to escape from the ghetto. Tadeusz even used his pharmacy as a hiding place for Jews who were being hunted by the Nazis.

In 1944, Tadeusz and Helena were arrested by the Gestapo and sent to a concentration camp. They were both tortured, but they refused to give up their secrets. Eventually, they were released from the camp and they returned to Sanok, where they continued to help Jews until the end of the war.

After the war, Tadeusz Pankiewicz was recognized as a Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem, the Israeli Holocaust memorial. He was also awarded the Free Download of the White Eagle, Poland's highest honor.

Tadeusz Pankiewicz died in 1993, but his legacy lives on. His story is a powerful reminder of the power of courage and compassion in the face of adversity.
