Mea Culpa: A True Story of Murder, Redemption, and the Power of Forgiveness
In 1985, I was convicted of murder. I was 22 years old and had just given birth to my second child. I was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

I spent the next 26 years in prison. During that time, I had a lot of time to think about what I had done. I thought about the victim, her family, and my own family. I thought about the choices I had made that had led me to this point.
I also thought a lot about forgiveness. I knew that I needed to forgive myself for what I had done. I also needed to forgive the people who had hurt me.
It wasn't easy, but eventually I was able to find forgiveness. Forgiveness didn't make what I did okay, but it did set me free.
In 2011, I was released from prison. I have been working ever since to make amends for what I did. I speak to groups about my experiences, and I work with organizations that are dedicated to helping people who have been involved in the criminal justice system.
I am not proud of what I did, but I am proud of the person I have become. I am a survivor, and I am a testament to the power of forgiveness.
My memoir, Mea Culpa, is the story of my journey from darkness to light. It is a story of pain, loss, redemption, and hope. I hope that my story will inspire others who are struggling with their own past mistakes.
Here is an excerpt from Mea Culpa:
> "I remember the day I was arrested like it was yesterday. I was sitting in my apartment with my two young children when the police came knocking at the door. I knew they were there for me, and I knew that my life was about to change forever.
> "I was taken to the police station and interrogated for hours. I denied everything at first, but eventually I broke down and confessed. I told them how I had killed my husband in a fit of rage.
> "I was charged with murder and taken to jail. I spent the next few months in a cell, waiting for my trial. I was scared and alone, and I didn't know what the future held.
> "My trial lasted for two weeks. The jury found me guilty of murder and I was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
> "I was devastated. I couldn't believe that I was going to spend the rest of my life in prison. I thought about my children and how they would grow up without me. I thought about my parents and how they would never see me again.
> "I spent the next 26 years in prison. It was a long and difficult time, but I eventually found redemption and forgiveness. I learned to forgive myself for what I had done, and I learned to forgive the people who had hurt me.
> "I was released from prison in 2011. I have been working ever since to make amends for what I did. I speak to groups about my experiences, and I work with organizations that are dedicated to helping people who have been involved in the criminal justice system.
> "I am not proud of what I did, but I am proud of the person I have become. I am a survivor, and I am a testament to the power of forgiveness."
If you are struggling with your own past mistakes, I hope that my story will inspire you. You are not alone. There is hope. You can find redemption and forgiveness.
