Winner Take All Politics: How Washington Works and How to Change It
In Winner Take All Politics: How Washington Works and How to Change It, political scientist Robert B. Reich argues that the American political system is broken. He contends that the system is rigged in favor of the wealthy and powerful, and that it is increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to have their voices heard.
Reich identifies a number of factors that have contributed to the rise of winner-take-all politics. These include the increasing concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few individuals and corporations, the decline of unions and other forms of organized labor, and the rise of negative campaigning and partisan gerrymandering.

Reich argues that the winner-take-all system is harmful to democracy. He contends that it leads to gridlock and inaction, as well as a decline in public trust in government. He also argues that the system is unfair, as it allows the wealthy and powerful to have a disproportionate influence on the political process.
Reich offers a number of proposals for reforming the American political system. These include:
- Reversing the concentration of wealth and power.
- Strengthening unions and other forms of organized labor.
- Reducing the influence of money in politics.
- Promoting nonpartisan redistricting.
- Expanding access to voting.
Reich acknowledges that these reforms will not be easy to implement. However, he argues that they are necessary to save American democracy. He concludes the book with a call for citizens to get involved in the political process and to demand change.
