Early Life

Rise to Power

After a long and bloody siege, Cyrus captured the Lydian capital, Sardis, and overthrew King Croesus.

Cyrus's victory over Lydia made him the master of all of Asia Minor. He continued to expand his empire, conquering the Babylonian Empire in 539 BC and the Egyptian Empire in 525 BC. By the time of his death in 530 BC, Cyrus the Great had created the largest empire in the world.
