Sarah and her husband, John, began trying to conceive in 2010. After a year of unsuccessful attempts, they sought medical help. They were diagnosed with unexplained infertility, which meant that there was no known reason why they could not conceive.
Sarah and John underwent several rounds of fertility treatments, including intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, none of the treatments were successful. They experienced multiple miscarriages, which added to their heartbreak.
In 2015, Sarah and John decided to pursue adoption. They were matched with a birth mother who was due to give birth in the spring of 2016. However, just weeks before the baby was born, the birth mother changed her mind and decided to keep the baby.
Sarah and John were devastated. They had come so close to having a child, only to have their dreams shattered once again. However, they did not give up hope. They continued to pursue adoption, and in 2017, they were finally matched with a baby girl. They named her Lily, and she is the light of their lives.
Empty Womb, Aching Heart is a powerful and moving memoir that will resonate with anyone who has ever experienced infertility or loss. Sarah Smith's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of hope. It is a must-read for anyone who is struggling with infertility or loss, or for anyone who wants to better understand the challenges that these individuals face.
